Public Charge Information and Resources

November 16, 2018

If you have been following the news, then you are probably aware of the growing concern regarding the proposed changes to the Public Charge rule. While the details of the proposal are complex, we want you to know that Canal Alliance is leading the conversation among partners, allies and advocates to speak out against these changes and defend the rights of immigrant families.

What Canal Alliance is doing:

    • We began this discussion back in June 2018 when a leaked copy of the proposed changes was released, and we have been watching the developments closely as the current version of the proposed changes were released on September 23, 2018.

    • We will continue to provide only accurate and current information for clients who are concerned about how these changes will affect their immigration cases and their family’s well-being.

  • We will continue to partner with other organizations that will allow us to educate and empower our community to take a stand. On November 27th, we’ll be co-hosting a Community Meeting with Marin Community Clinics to bring accurate and reliable information to those that need it most.

What you can do:

    • Help us share accurate and current information about Public Charge with those that might be concerned about the proposed changes. Be sure to reference our “Resources” page for information if you’re in need of additional information.

  • Submit a public comment! Share your personal stories and reasoning why these proposed changes would directly impact your family, your community or your livelihood. You do not have to be currently receiving public benefits in order to have an opinion.

Below, we’ve compiled a list of up-to-date, reliable information on the proposed changes to the Public Charge rule to help keep you informed.
