University Prep (UP!) Volunteer Tutor
Objective:
By providing homework support to students, volunteers will contribute to the UP! goal of 100% of our students graduating from a 4-year university.
* Volunteers needed in all subject areas, with a particular need for math tutors.
Program Dates:
January 6, 2026 – June 10, 2026 (Spring Semester)
Middle School Information:
Mon/Tues/Thurs – 3:45-5:45 p.m.
Wednesday – 3:20-5:20 p.m.
Location: Davidson Middle School, 280 Woodland Ave, San Rafael, CA 94901
High School Information:
Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
*greatest need on Monday and Wednesday
Location: Canal Alliance, 711 Grand Ave, San Rafael, Bay Building
Requirements:
- Volunteers must be 18+ and pass a criminal background check prior to participation
- Attend a mandatory volunteer orientation once per year
- Minimum commitment of a two-hour shift per week
- Commitment to volunteer for the complete Spring semester
Responsibilities:
- Provide homework support to individuals or small groups of students
- Communicate regularly with the program supervisor about any academic or socio-emotional issues
- Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations
- Sign in and out daily, and wear a name badge when on site
Skills :
- Ability to build strong, respectful, and culturally responsive relationships with diverse students
- Awareness of systemic barriers faced by immigrant and first-generation students
- Strong content knowledge in your identified subject. Math tutors must pass an assessment to tutor Math
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, UP! Staff, and other volunteers
- Bilingual in Spanish and English (preferred, but not neccesary)
