Remembering Thomas Vogl: Honoring a Beloved Colleague

In April, Canal Alliance unexpectedly lost one of our beloved staff members, Thomas Vogl. Thomas joined our team five years ago as our accountant and ultimately became Canal Alliance’s controller in 2023. Thomas brought expertise to our team, and also a quirky charm that made every workday brighter. Known for his welcoming smile and spontaneous jokes, Thomas was the kind of colleague who made you feel like part of a family from day one.
One of Thomas’s favorite rituals was biking to work with his dog Struppi, always arriving with a story or a laugh to share. To honor his passion and spirit, Canal Alliance held a small staff memorial on May 15, 2025, national Bike-to-Work Day, and shared that, moving forward, Canal Alliance will call this day Thomas Vogl Bike-to-Work Day, in Thomas’s honor.
Additionally, Canal Alliance is planning to install a permanent bike locker in the parking lot of our headquarters at 711 Grand Avenue, and the installation will feature a memorial plaque celebrating his dedication, joyful personality, and years of service.
Thomas may no longer ride alongside us, but his legacy pedals in every smile and every bike bell that rings around our building.
