Canal Alliance, through its Nuestro Canal Nuestro Futuro initiative (NCNF), is supporting Canal resident voices government decision-making processes. NCNF is a resident-led community planning initiative that will evaluate and redress environmental and climate injustice in the Canal area of San Rafael. By involving residents in leading electrification and climate adaptation, Canal Alliance is building neighborhood resilience and strengthening the Canal neighborhood’s ability to withstand the impacts of climate adaption, impacts like flooding and sea-level rise.
Additionally, the Neighborhood Vision Plan will highlight existing assets and needed infrastructure and investment, including housing, workforce development, education, access to parks and facilities, flood prevention infrastructure, equitable electrification and other adaptation projects. Canal Alliance efforts will also bolster community strength by ensuring that residents receive the benefits of investments and can build upon them for current and future generations.
In partnership with NCNF and the City of San Rafael, Canal Alliance is also leading the Community-Driven Solutions for Equitable Electrification Planning project that supports low-income Latino immigrant residents to co-create an Electrification Plan as part of a Healthy Community Plan.
