Success Story: Jonathan Garcia Rivera- Fall 2024

Jonathan Garcia Rivera’s journey reflects the resilience and determination that defines many of our participants in the Latinos in Finance program.

Jonathan migrated to California with his parents when he was just five years old. Like many immigrant families who face financial challenges, Jonathan’s focus after graduating high school was on working to support his family. Though higher education was not an option at the time, Jonathan never stopped dreaming of a better future for himself and his loved ones.

When Jonathan learned about the Latinos in Finance program, he saw it as a unique opportunity to advance his career. “I wanted a new opportunity to move up and grow professionally. I have so much more knowledge about finance now and learned so much,” he said.

Throughout the course, Jonathan’s dedication and enthusiasm stood out. He embraced the opportunity to expand his skills and gain a deeper understanding of the financial industry. After completing the program, Jonathan applied to Bank of America and was hired as a Relationship Banker. With this new position, he increased his hourly wage from $20 to $25 and gained access to excellent benefits and opportunities for professional growth.

This milestone is a significant step for Jonathan and his family. Not only is he thriving in a field he is passionate about, but his parents are also proud of his achievements and the new chapter he has begun. Jonathan’s success underscores the transformative impact of programs like Latinos in Finance. His success is a testament to how access to education and support can open doors to life-changing opportunities for Latinos.
