Water levels worry San Rafael residents

San Rafael has been awarded $1.6 million in grants to fund studies for long-term planning in the Northgate and Canal neighborhoods.

In November 2022, the San Rafael City Council launched the Canal Community Resilience Planning Project, a study investigating the feasibility of sea-level rise adaptation in the Canal neighborhood.

Omar Carrera, chief executive of Canal Alliance, an immigrant advocacy organization in San Rafael, said the policy is being “misused.”

San Rafael will use a $762,000 grant to fund an equity-guided study on the effects of sea level rise and climate change in the Canal.
