All 516 Canal Street Families Permanently Rehoused Thanks to Our Community’s Extraordinary Generosity

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our community, we are relieved and grateful to share that all families displaced by the 516 Canal Street fire are now permanently rehoused. This was an extraordinarily complex endeavor here in Marin, given the scarcity of affordable housing, and was made possible because donors like you showed up when it mattered most.

With the final accounting for Canal Alliance’s Emergency Client Support Fund now complete, remaining resources have been distributed directly to the 56 individuals who lost everything. Your contributions allowed Canal Alliance staff to work overtime, including evenings and weekends, to support the families of 516 Canal Street, and helped these families secure short-term housing and replace essential items including housewares, furniture, clothing, identification documents, lost wages, cars, cell phones, and more — the building blocks of stability after profound loss.

From emergency relief to long-term housing, your compassion has carried these families through every step of this crisis. On behalf of the families of 516 Canal Street and all of us at Canal Alliance, thank you for your care, generosity, and unwavering support. You have made lasting recovery possible.

Yours in partnership,

Omar Carrera
Chief Executive Officer

P.S. In case you missed it, I recently penned an op-ed about the precariousness of events like these for our immigrant community. I hope you will take a moment to read it and continue to stand with immigrants in Marin County as Canal Alliance builds solutions for today, and tomorrow.
