Youth Leadership

All participants in YEDP are enrolled in at least one leadership group, meeting every Friday evening. In these groups, students explore what it means to be a “conscious leader” in the community. We discuss values and morals, and recognize the importance of equity, justice, self-knowledge, and service. All participants develop an increased awareness of economic, social, and political issues impacting the community.

Each Leadership Group develops at least one community service project per year. Students identify the issue or need, develop the strategy, and work together to carry out their projects. Past projects have included the alcohol-free Cinco de Mayo celebration and the nationally recognized Community Recycling Project, winner of the National Geographic/SunChips “GreenEffects Award” for 2009.
