April’s Volunteer of the Month is Jane Solomons from our Computer Literacy Program.
Jane actually began with our ESL program about 5 years ago and then merged into helping our clients learn basic computer skills at our Computer Technology Center. She currently does so at our Opportunity Center.
Adrian Aragon, Opportunity Center Site Specialist states, “Jane is an outstanding teacher who has committed to teach a group of about seven students in our computer lab at the Opportunity Center. She teaches her students basic computer skills such as techniques of using a keyboard, mouse, etc. She’s always on time, ready to teach the students. The students are really happy to have Jane as a teacher because she does her volunteer job with love for the community.”
Jamie Goekler, Job Development Coordinator, agrees, “She is currently revising computer curriculum for clients who are learning how to use computers for the first time. Her time and dedication to the OC is invaluable. Her passion for volunteering is spectacular.”
Bob Jackson, Director of Economic Development and IT, furthers, “She is one of those rare people who have knowledge, patience, flexibility and persistence. Those qualities are immensely helpful in the computer classroom whether as an assistant or teacher. Patience is required because you need to allow time for people to learn the lesson, sometimes forget it and learn it again. She has demonstrated this over and over in her many years with us. Flexibility is required to volunteer with us in this capacity because things are always changing with our classes and she has changed with us.”
Jane was presented with a certificate and a coupon for a complimentary dessert donated by the Tiburon Grill as well as a coupon for a complimentary coffee drink donated by the Coffee Cup, 124 Belvedere Street.
