
Through a range of basic, intermediate, and advanced economic development strategies, we serve clients at all levels of need along the path to economic self-sufficiency. Programs include English as a Second Language (ESL), Vocational ESL classes, small business development workshops, computer training, job fairs, and technical assistance to micro entrepreneurial ventures, workers cooperatives, financial planning courses, asset development programs, and community tax preparation events. Canal Alliance has been supporting the development of the Vecinos, a group of local residents determined to improve the quality of life for their families, their neighbors and those in the community most in need.
Applicant must have Spanish fluency in order to:
- Work with the Vecinos, Canal Alliance Community Organizer to maintain goals of the three-year strategic plan.
- Implement Disaster Preparedness Environmental Surveys and Disaster Preparedness Plans for both the Canal Alliance and, with members of the Vecinos, for the Canal neighborhood
- Work with Vecinos members and staff to identify community leaders, both organizational and residential for community building, thereby building an infrastructure critical for effective disaster planning
- Assist with connecting groups of community members to volunteer projects within the Canal and greater San Rafael
Candidates must be registered AmeriCorps VISTA members (http://www.americorps.gov/for_individuals/choose/vista.asp) and have full time availability for service November 2011-November 2012.
