Sarah Lindsay joined Canal Alliance in February 2011 as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer. In her role as Sustainable Business Center Assistant, she works to increase the capacity of the Center to support entrepreneurs in the launch and growth of their small businesses through infrastructure development and program support.
Prior to Canal Alliance, Sarah interned at an Oakland-based foundation focusing on economic and community development through financial sustainability. Among other tasks, she worked with small business clients to help them develop e-commerce websites to sell their wares online. It was working with the small business owners and helping them to grow that Sarah enjoyed the most, and led her to this position at Canal Alliance.
A California East Bay native, Sarah spent four years on the east coast earning her bachelors degree in Latin American Studies and Hispanic Studies from Connecticut College. She was also a scholar in the college’s Holleran Center for Community Action and Public Policy (PICA). As a PICA scholar, she volunteered in her college’s local community as well as in the Dominican Republic and studied local non-governmental organizations in Latin America and their effectiveness in promoting and implementing sustainable development projects. For her work inside and outside the classroom, Sarah was awarded the Holleran Center’s Scholar Activist Award upon her graduation in 2008.
Sarah is thrilled to be working at Canal Alliance and speaking Spanish on a daily basis again.
