Omar Carrera

omarcarrera Omar Carrera was born and raised in Ecuador. He comes from a background in business management. Before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, Omar worked for Mitsubishi as a Senior Accountant and ran his own cyber café, restaurant and Salsa nightclub in Quito.

When he moved to the United States in 2003, Omar enrolled in the Canal Alliance’s English classes to improve his language skills. There he became acquainted with the work the Canal Alliance offers the community and joined as an active volunteer, helping clients enhance their technology knowledge.  He was hired a year later to teach and coordinate the computer training program.

Since then, Omar has developed several successful Economic Development Programs in the community and has grown professionally within the Canal Alliance. He has had the opportunity to work directly with clients, coordinate and manage programs, and support the fundraising efforts of the organization. In his new roll, as Associate Director, Omar is providing support to the Executive Director in the planning, leading, managing, and evaluating the success of the many programs the Canal Alliance offers.

"It is such an inspiration to help people to thrive and see them accomplish self–sufficiency and leadership through their education."
