Originally from Ecuador, Maite received her BA in Cultural Anthropology at the University of California in Santa Barbara course work for a Masters in Latin American Studies at California State University Los Angeles. Before coming to the Canal Alliance she worked as a bilingual family counselor, case manager and Spanish language instructor, she worked in local non-profit and educational institutions in Marin County.
Maité works directly with Canal youth and families to organize and facilitate the community change that youth and families identify as priorities. "I feel especially satisfied when a parent comes up to me after one of our presentations and says 'I never knew about that.' It makes me realize how much we're helping parents."
Maite is the mother of three school age children and lives in Mill Valley.

PG&E has been a big supporter of Canal Alliance for many years. Their support enables us to address basic needs by providing emergency food and financial assistance, as well as to promote self-sufficiency and employability by providing English as a Second Language (ESL), computer literacy and financial education classes, small business development training, and other income enhancement programs.
