Gabby was six years old when her parents enrolled her in Canal Alliance's after-school program. She continued with our programs throughout high school and was hired in January of 2003 to work in our Multicultural Family Advocacy (MFA) Program. As a family advocate, she helped clients find housing, collect unpaid wages, and obtain other basic necessities. Gabby also facilitated the "Chicas Group", a peer support group for young women. In 2007 she began working in our Immigration Department as a legal assistant. She is the first person to meet with Immigration Department clients: assessing their needs, directing them to the appropriate immigration legal service and helping them prepare for the next step in their legal process. When needed Gabby also provides translation for immigration clients in San Francisco. “What I appreciate most about working at Canal Alliance is working with great staff members and what I enjoy about my current job is that I get to see peoples emotional expressions when they obtain legal status"
For fun in 2003 on Thursday evenings, Gabby hosted a mixed-music, one-hour program on student-run Radio Amiga (88.1). She then moved on in 2005 and started working at Wild 94.9 fm, a Clear Channel Radio Station in San Francisco; she was as a DJ and a supervisor for the Promotions department. Through this experience she started a DJ, music and MC business and named it Aragon Entertainment. Currently Gabby and her brothers work at local events, corporate parties and clubs in the bay area.
After she graduates from College of Marin, Gabby plans to complete her BA in Radio Broadcasting at San Francisco State. She is also thinking of becoming a paralegal so that she can continue to work with immigrant families.
