Erik Hernandez

Erik-H

Erik Hernandez graduated from San Francisco State University in May of 2011 with a degree in Political Science. Of his many interests, education is the field he is most passionate about working in. He grew up in San Rafael and was a part of many after-school and college bound programs offered in the area. As a Youth Education Advocate, Erik hopes to help students not only get to college, but become leaders in their community as well.

Erik has worked with a diverse array of students in the past, especially those with immigrant backgrounds. During his time in college he worked for several years at Everett Middle School in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District. As an academic tutor, he assisted teachers in the classroom and encouraged students to go to college.

Coming back to work for the neighborhood in which he grew up in, Erik is excited to join the YSP team. “All I want to do is what others did for me. Like many of my students I went to Bahia Vista, Davidson Middle School and graduated from San Rafael High School. But along the way I always had people who supported me, who truly believed in me. Sometimes that might just be the most important thing you need to succeed.”
