Employment Assistance |
Each year, we assist clients with Work Authorization Renewals and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) – these are clients from El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and now Haiti, who are unable to return safely to their home country because of war, natural disaster, or other circumstances.
 |
Family Reunification |
We help clients who are US Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents reunite with their families from other countries by filing visa petitions and providing representation and assistance. We provide assistance and representation for clients who meet eligibility requirements to apply for lawful permanent resident status.
 |
Naturalization |
Each year we help clients become citizens by providing representation and assistance with citizenship application. We also provide a class to help clients prepare to pass the naturalization examination on US history and civics.
 |
Survivor Protection |
We represent clients who seek legal protection and residence because they are victims of violence. U status provides protection for survivors of certain crimes, including domestic violence; Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) enables victims of domestic violence to apply for permanent residence without the assistance of their abusers; Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) enables abused, neglected, or abandoned youth to obtain lawful permanent residence; and Asylum for those who were persecuted in the past or would be persecuted if they returned to their home countries.

Partner Legal Representation |
Canal Alliance provides space for our partner organizations to provide services that are not offered by our in-house legal team. Partners are Legal Aid of Marin, Fair Housing of Marin, and Marin County Victim-Witness Assistance Program.
 |
Immigration Law Leadership & Advocacy |
Our legal staff members participate in numerous working groups to advocate for immigrants rights, especially rights of domestic violence survivors, and for reform of existing immigration law. Our attorneys are active members of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. We also provide an ICE raid and emergency preparedness toolkit and training to other organizations throughout Marin, in collaboration with the other members of the county's Immigration Working Group.
