Right outside of the offices of Canal Alliance stands a 22 x 28 feet community mural that students from our Youth Scholarship Program painted. The youth named the mural “True Colors,” as a reminder of the rich ethnic and social diversity of Canal residents. The mural celebrates the strength and resilience of community members and the youth – ages 11 -18 – who are part of Canal Alliance’s Youth Scholarship Program.
This project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Canal Alliance, ForWords, Precita Eyes and Marin Community Foundation. On November 9, 2011 the students had a community ribbon cutting celebration to unveil the mural. The celebration was attended by 200 hundred people. Mayor Albert Boro was one of the invitees who addressed the crowd.
