Canal Alliance helps low-income, Spanish speaking immigrants acquire the tools they need to thrive. Our organization takes a whole-community approach to the health and well being of our neighborhoods in the Canal area of Marin County. There are many factors affecting our community’s welfare. For example, research has shown that poorer communities generally have lower life expectancy than more affluent communities. Further, there are health threats built into the environment. Threats include limited access to grocery stores, traffic congestion, density of housing that is often inadequate or unaffordable, and proximity to landfills and contaminants that are by-products of local commercial businesses. In response to such threats, Canal Alliance and partners, Marin Community Clinic, the San Rafael School District, Marin Food Bank, Legal Aid of Marin, the County of Marin and others, are working hard to create an environment where all residents can live longer, healthier lives.
