Family Resources - Health

Mental Health

Using evidenced-based practices, we screen clients for mental health issues and provide services ourselves or referrals as needed. In collaboration with Family Service Agency of Marin we provide stress reduction support groups.

Health-care Access

We help clients access health-care by assisting them with public benefit applications for Women Infants and Children Program (WIC) and State-mandated Health Insurance for Children. We also provide support, referrals, information, and translation assistance for our clients’ medical phone calls and appointments.

Community Health Education (CHEW) Promotores

We partner with leaders from Marin Community Clinic, Marin County, and Canal Neighborhood Council to recruit and train “Promotores” peer health advocates to teach nutrition, disease prevention, healthy food choices, and healthy food preparation. The Family Resource team also includes this program in their case management work.

Compañeras

We recruit and train bilingual, bi-cultural Latina volunteers (“compañeras”) to provide prenatal and postpartum peer education and parent support services to Spanish-speaking mothers. Sixty families per year are involved in this program.
