Educational Equity - High School

High School Academic Intensive

Fifty students, who formally apply and commit to Canal Alliances Youth Education and Development Program (YEDP), receive not only tutoring assistance but also produce four academic projects each year.

The project-based curriculum helps students develop critical thinking skills; English reading, writing, and speaking; mathematics; and computer skills. With this extra support, we help students focus on graduation, higher education, and leadership.

Each year, 100% of our high school seniors graduate and enroll in college.

The following slideshow contains photos from the Youth Education and Development Program's End of Year Celebration. Congratulations to our hard-working students and staff!

High School Leadership Groups

Leadership Groups meet weekly for team building activities, discussions, and community service. Students choose one of four groups to practice English, explore leadership, discuss personal issues, and form lasting, supportive friendships.

High School Summer Leadership Institute

Annually, seven students are selected for The Leadership Institute. Students focus on sharpening their leadership skills by tackling a community issue and developing a solution and strategy plan discover his/her inner leader, create positive changes, and see their connection to the broader community through field trips and discussions. Students are paid a small stipend for this six-week intensive.

Drop-In Students

We also serve students on a drop-in basis, providing academic and tutoring support, as well as access to our Community Technology Center.
