The College Student Program is a free college support program. The program is open 7 days a week. College students in the academic program meet individually with a college counselor once a week and meet as a group once a month. All of the participants are eligible to receive financial aid, including scholarships provided by Canal Alliance.
Academic/Life Skills Program
The program focuses on academic and intellectual development by providing group and individual counseling and support. The program ensures that college students find financial aid and scholarships.
It also offers guidance with course selection, effective study habits as well as job and schoolwork balance. By connecting with other students, the program provides tutoring services on site or through the colleges or universities they attend. For interested students, the program also offers assistance in transferring to four-year universities and degree attainment.
Additionally, the program offers individual career development counseling and holds workshops with specialists on various career/workforce development skills and issues such as college and financial aid applications, budgeting, writing, life skills, time management, financial literacy, job search, resume writing and job interviewing skills, and much more.
The College Internship/Fellowship Work-Study Program
As part of the College Program, YEDP provides paid administrative and classroom job internship positions within the Canal Alliance organization to support their leadership, personal and social skills development. Students formally apply for the job positions and receive individual training and staff support to perform their job responsibilities while succeeding in college.
Individual career development counseling is also available for interns. Interns' leadership initiatives are fostered and facilitated in the classroom and in the community, as students are encouraged to form networks of support among themselves.
